B&W Consultants were commissioned to design and detail a rooftop grillage support structure for a replacement stub tower for a 5G upgrade project.
We undertook a structural survey of the roof and the supporting structure beneath to establish a suitable engineered solution for the new 10m lattice tower.
The new supporting structure comprised of a framework of steel beams supported by concrete plinths located over structural hard points of the roof with through bolts and steel cleats on the underside of the concrete roof slab/wall junctions.
As part of a large mast stay replacement project B&W Consultants were commissioned to survey and detail various elements as part of a maintenance project for a main MF radio
site.
Our scope of works comprised a detailed survey of two 158m tall masts, detailing a complete new set of stays with connection and tensioning hardware, design and detail of a new mast top, and general member replacement detailing for corroded members.
Our capacity to design steelwork with 3D frame analysis and design software (to Eurocodes), along with 3D digital fabrication of all parts enables us to efficiently engineer solutions with simple clear rendered visuals for easy review by the customer.
A recent project involved performing a structural analysis of a lattice tower in Ireland, followed by the design and detailing of a 6.1m tower extension to enable the installation of new UHF relay antennas.
The original tower owner had a customer with antennas already at the top of the tower and so to enable the new UHF antennas to be installed at that height it was decided to extend the tower and move the existing customer to the top.
A full structural analysis of the extended tower was performed with an assessment of the foundation performance. No strengthening was required to the tower or foundation.
